- The author of the present catalogue wished to establish a logical classification that was easy to consult, building on the earlier catalogues of Ingres' legacy. The drawing are organized in the same order as paintings: historical themes, portraits, landscapes, and various other subjects. The brief bibliographic and exhibition notices, referred to by code in the catalogue, are cited in greater detail in listings found at the end of the volume. There are two complete concordances to the earlier inventories by Momméja and Ternois.
