Matisse/Diebenkorn -- Influences and Affinities
Distinguished art historian and curator John Elderfield and Gretchen Diebenkorn Grant, daughter of the noted California artist Richard Diebenkorn, will discuss and illustrate the works of Henri Matisse (1869-1954) and Richard Diebenkorn (1922-1993), two great artists who never met, and the influence the older French artist had on the younger American and the many affinities between them.
This special IFAR Evening is timed to coincide with a major exhibition currently on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MOMA), which was co-organized with The Baltimore Museum of Art, its previous and only other venue.
