In Sorrow, IFAR Announces the Death of its Chairman Emeritus, Jack A. Josephson

October 27, 2022

Jack Josephson joined IFAR’s Board
in 1989 and served as Chairman of the Board for more than 16 years, from December 1997 to June 2014, at which point he remained involved as Chairman Emeritus. A retired businessman, Mr. Josephson was also a respected Egyptologist and a noted collector, several of whose artworks are now in major museum collections. He was the Presidentially-appointed Chairman of the U.S. Cultural Property Advisory Committee (CPAC) for 5 years (1990-95). A gentleman and scholar, he will be sorely missed.

The past two years have seen the passing of many of the great scholars and leaders long associated with IFAR. Not long ago, we posted website announcements about the passing of Franklin Feldman, Jan Boll, and William Gerdts, and published In Memoria in the Journal recently for Professor Jonathan Brown and noted conservator, Arthur Beale. Sadly, the list goes on. We mourn these losses and thank these extraordinary people for all they have given to IFAR and to the art world more broadly.
