- Published as a volume in the series entitled: "Collections of the National Gallery of Art Systematic Catalogue". Although the publication is a collections catalogue of the National Gallery's extensive collection, and not a catalogue raisonné per se, it is a definitive and critical reference for the artist's sculptural oeuvre, including wax and other media.
The introductory texts include essays by Suzanne Glover Lindsay, Daphne S. Barbour, Shelley G. Sturman, et al., covering various aspects of the artist's life and work, the sculptures after his death, Degas' materials and techniques, etc.
The essays are followed by the catalogue of Degas' sculpture held by the National Gallery of Art. The catalogue reflects the donation of the late Paul Mellon's unique collection of Degas sculpture to the Gallery.
