Vienna 1900: Portraiture, Perception, Reception, and Restitution

Alessandra Comini University Distinguished Professor of Art History Emerita, Southern Methodist University ; Curator,  "Egon Schiele: Portraits,"  Neue Galerie, Fall 2014

Program Location:
Scandinavia House
58 Park Avenue, New York

This program highlights portraiture in early 20th century Vienna -- by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka -- and coincides with an exhibition of Schiele portraits at the Neue Galerie in New York. Focus will be on the artwork; on the way that contemporaneous studies of the mind and brain influenced the artists and the way their portraits were perceived; and on the increasing popularity of these artists, who have factored so heavily into Holocaust-era art restitution claims.

Q&A and Reception Follow the Talks
